Development of technology for manufacturing ductile iron castings resistant to dynamic wear conditions by using composite layers reinforced with tungsten carbide particles.

Koneckie Zakłady Odlewnicze S.A. is implementing the project “Development of technology for manufacturing ductile iron castings resistant to dynamic wear conditions by using composite layers reinforced with tungsten carbide particles”.

The project includes the implementation of research and development works and the implementation of their results. In the R&D module, a product innovation will be developed, which will be resistant to abrasive wear cast elements of agricultural machines, reinforced on the surface with a composite layer using the Reactive Liquid Casting Coatings (RCPO) technology. Work will be carried out to produce and thoroughly test the manufactured prototype products, first in laboratory conditions (BP), and then testing in real conditions (PR).

After the completion of the project, the Company will have a complete set of research results, which should confirm the usefulness and possibility of effectively entering the market of products made using the new technology.

The immediate need that the R&D results are to address is a rapid extension of the working time of cast wear parts used in agricultural machines, devices and tools in order to reduce the number of replacements and downtimes. The products developed by KZO based on RCPO technology are to achieve increased functionality parameters, in particular an increase in resistance to abrasive wear by at least 30%. KZO plans to start production in its own business of castings reinforced with a composite layer intended primarily for the market of agricultural machinery manufacturers. For this purpose, at the stage of the Innovation Implementation module, an investment is planned to be made consisting in the expansion of the production plant, where products resulting from the R&D module research work will be manufactured, and the purchase of fixed assets necessary for this purpose.
